George Young, one of the prominent men of Bay City, died January 18, 1890. |
Mr. Young was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, January 12, 1820, emigrated to America in 1839. Settled in the city of Albany, New York, where he was for many years engaged in the wholesale and retail grocery business. He was married June 15, 1846, to Magdalen Ann McCormick, by whom he left four sons, viz.: George H., cashier Bay City Bank; Charles E. and Walter D., engaged in the coal and vessel business, and William A., the youngest, in the lumber business with William Peter. |
Mr. Young came to Bay City in 1870 and went into the banking business. He was for many years vice president of the Bay City Bank which office he held at his death; he was very successful in business, having accumulated a fortune. A man of strict integrity and universally respected by all classes of citizens. |
