TRANSCRIBER NOTES

• NAME: The first item listed is the last name of the individual. If the first name is available, that will appear also, if not, the word "Son" or Daughter" will appear.



• DATE: Month/Day/Year (4/14/1935)
               Usually The Press printed the date only on page one. Early editions of The Journal sometimes print the date on all the pages and sometimes not.



• PAGE: Ideally, this would mean simply read the date and page number up in the corner. If you've been reading along, you may have guessed that this is not the case for early issues. These issues were indexed by finding the page with the banner and counting until stopped by another page with a banner.
  
  
• COLUMN: Designations are arbitrary. Start with the first full column of text and count each successive column from left to right. NOTE: The press and a few years of the Journal are laid out (generally) in columns of six. At the eve of World War II, the publisher expanded the layout to seven columns. The use of the odd sized advertising also makes accurate column counting a challenge.
  
  One final note: The early years of the Pinconning Press did not print actual birth notices. Citations for those years often refer to one of two sentences "hidden" among several columns of "Local News."
